An invitation letter is not compulsory, but it is often requested for the following visa types:

• Tourist Visa (TR)
• Non-Immigrant O Visa (NON-O)
• Destination Thailand Visa (DTV)

In some periods, Thai embassies may require it, while in others they may not list it but request it later.
For this reason, preparing an invitation letter in advance is highly recommended.

Why an Invitation Letter Is Useful

1. Explains the relationship between the host and the foreign visitor
2. Supports a Thai visa application, even if not listed in the required documents
3. Confirms the foreigner’s address in Thailand, together with:
   • A copy of the Thai host’s ID card
   • A copy of the Thai host’s house registration
4. Can be shown to Thai Immigration officers if asked about accommodation
5. Confirms that the Thai host is aware of and agrees to the foreigner’s stay

Basic Guidelines for Writing an Invitation Letter

1. There is no fixed format. The letter should be simple, clear, and easy to understand

It should include:

• Thai host’s personal details
• Foreigner’s personal details
• Length of stay and travel dates
• Purpose of the visit

2. The letter:

• can be written in Thai or English, matching the information on:
  • Thai ID card
  • Foreigner’s passport
• may be handwritten or typed, but must be signed by the host

3. Supporting documents to attach:

• Copy of Thai ID card
• Copy of house registration (first page and page showing the host’s name)

4. Relationship Terms (Recommended)

• Boyfriend / Girlfriend or Partner
• Husband / Wife or Spouse
