(Thailand Entry)
Warning: TM30 Filed, but Extension of Stay or Change Visa Type Not Allowed
When applying for an Extension of Stay or a Change of Visa Type in Thailand, you must submit your application at the Immigration Office that has jurisdiction over the address registered in your latest TM30 notification.
If you apply at an Immigration Office in a different area, your application will not be accepted, because that office has no authority outside its designated jurisdiction.
Example
- Your TM30 address is registered in Province A
- But you apply for an extension in Province B
➡️ Immigration in Province B will refuse to process your application.
⬩➤ Immigration Bureau Regulations ▼
The TM30 address notification and visa extension / visa change applications
are directly linked due to territorial jurisdiction rules.
1. Each Immigration Office is responsible only for foreigners residing in its area
- This confirms that the foreigner is actually residing in that area
- Immigration officers rely on the latest TM30 record in the system
2. Verification of actual residence
An extension of stay is not based solely on visa documents. Immigration also verifies your current residence, using supporting documents such as:
- House registration (Tabien Baan)
- Thai ID card of the house owner
- In case of renting:
lease agreement, residence certificate, or confirmation letter from the house owner
All documents must be consistent with the TM30 address on record.
3. Preventing applicants from “shopping for easier offices”
This system is designed to prevent foreigners from:
- Moving between provinces to submit applications
- Choosing Immigration offices perceived as more lenient
⬩➤ Can You Apply at a Different Immigration Office?▼
Yes, it is possible,
but only if you have new residence documents and a new TM30 notification registered for that area.Once the new TM30 is properly filed,
you may apply for an extension of stay or visa change at the Immigration Office responsible for the new address.
Acceptable Ways to Establish a New Address
1. Using a new house owner’s address
- The house owner can be anyone
- Required documents are only:
Thai ID card and house registration of the house owner- Immigration does not require proof of relationship between the foreigner and the house owner
2. Renting a property in that area
- Sign a lease agreement
- The property owner must submit a TM30 notification
- Common supporting documents include:
- Lease agreement
- Owner’s Thai ID card
- Residence certificate or confirmation letter from the owner
3. Staying at a hotel
- Hotels are legally required to submit TM30 notifications
- The stay must cover the date you apply for the extension
- The hotel must specify the check-in and check-out dates in the system
Summary
✅ If you have a new address and have submitted a new TM30
➡ you may apply for an extension of stay or visa change
at the Immigration Office responsible for that area
✅ Whichever address you use in your application documents
➡ must be the address registered in TM30
