6 (TDAC – Thailand Digital Arrival Card) ▼
(Extension of Stay)
Re-entry Permit:

What You Need to Know After Getting a Non-O Visa and Entering Thailand
You must apply for a Non-O visa online while the foreigner is still outside Thailand. It cannot be done after arriving in Thailand. Getting the initial Non-O visa is just the starting point. Once you enter Thailand, here are the essential steps and requirements you need to manage:
⬩➤ 1. Important Registration Rules
TM.6 (TDAC – Thailand Digital Arrival Card) ▼
What it is: The arrival card that used to be a paper form on the airplane has now moved online.
Key details:
- You must register online within 3 days before entering Thailand at
tdac.immigration.go.th. - It is mandatory for all foreign visitors every time they enter the country.
- It is 100% FREE. Beware of fraudulent websites charging fees.
- If you do not fill it out before arriving, immigration officers will require you to do it at the airport before proceeding, which wastes time.
TM.30 (Notification of Foreigner’s Residence) ▼
What it is: A mandatory registration of the foreigner’s actual living address in Thailand, which requires uploading proof of documents.
Key details:
- The house owner or landlord must submit their owner documents. Once the foreigner arrives and gets an entry stamp in their passport, upload a photo of that entry stamp to complete the process.
- This can be done in person at the local immigration office near the residence or online at
tm30.immigration.go.th. - Failure to report results in a fine ranging from 800 to 2,000 THB, usually collected when you contact immigration for other services.
TM.47 (90-Day Reporting) ▼
What it is: A mandatory address check for foreigners staying long-term in Thailand.
Key details:
- Any foreigner holding any visa type who stays in Thailand continuously for more than 90 days must report every 90 days.
- You can report in person at the immigration office or online at
tm47.immigration.go.th. - Failure to report carries a fine of 2,000 to 5,000 THB.
⬩➤ 2. Opening a Bank Account and Preparing for Extension
Upon entry with a Non-O visa, you are initially granted a 90-day stay.
Immediate Action Required: Visit a bank to open an account as soon as possible. To apply for a long-term visa extension, the required funds must sit in a Thai bank account for at least 2 months.
Document requirements vary by bank and visa type:
- Marriage/Family Non-O: May require a marriage certificate, Thai Kor Ror 22, or a child’s birth certificate.
- Retirement Non-O: May require a TM.30 receipt or a Yellow Tabien Baan (House Registration Book).
- Note: Inquire with banks immediately so you do not run out of time on the 2-month deposit rule.
⬩➤ 3. Applying for a Visa Extension (Extension of Stay)
You can complete this process on your own without paying high agent fees.
Steps:
- Prepare all documents, especially bank account proof showing the required balance for the required timeframe.
- Go to the local immigration office designated by your TM.30 address.
- Fill out forms TM.7 and STM.2.
Important: Form TM.7 explicitly states that the foreigner must appear in person. Hiring an agent does not exempt you from showing up. Using illegal shortcuts risks future deportation if government policies tighten.
Once approved, you receive a 1-year extension. You must repeat this extension process every year.
⬩➤ 4. Re-entry Permit (Leaving Thailand)
- The initial Non-O visa is a Single Entry visa.
- If you leave Thailand without obtaining a Re-entry Permit, your Non-O visa and extension will automatically expire. Re-entering Thailand afterward will only yield a standard visa exemption stamp (if eligible).
- Re-entry Permit Types:
- Single Re-entry (1 time exit/entry): 1,000 THB.
- Multiple Re-entry (unlimited exits/entries): 3,800 THB.
- Where to apply: At your local immigration office or at the airport before your flight out (allow extra time at the airport).
- Recommendation: Getting a Multiple Re-entry permit during your annual extension saves hassle and prevents accidental visa loss if you travel unexpectedly.
⬩➤ Summary Checklist After Arrival
- Fill out TM.6 (TDAC) online before arrival (free).
- Register TM.30 as soon as you reach your residence.
- Open a Thai bank account and deposit funds immediately within the first 90 days.
- Apply in person for a 1-year Extension of Stay at Immigration, and renew annually.
- File a TM.47 (90-Day Report) if you stay continuously longer than 90 days.
- Obtain a Re-entry Permit before traveling outside Thailand.
