Opening a Thai Bank Account on a Non-O Visa: Guide & Checklist
Have you ever experienced this? You visit a bank to open an account with your NON-O visa, only to be rejected or told by staff that “you need a long-term visa (1 year) to open an account.” In reality, a NON-O visa absolutely allows you to open a Thai bank account! In this post, we are going to clear up all the confusion and provide you with the exact list of documents you need.
⬩➤ Important Tip: Bank policies can vary by branch ▼
It is common for different banks or even different branches of the same bank to interpret rules differently or have slightly different procedures.
Advice from GoNoGuide:
It is highly recommended to call or check with your preferred branch in advance.
If you encounter a branch that makes the process difficult or refuses you, don’t hesitate to try a different branch or a different bank altogether. There is no need to stick to one place.
Generally, GoNoGuide recommends the “Green Bank” because their documentation requirements are clear, and they have been consistent in their answers across multiple visits.
⬩➤ Must-Know: NON-O Visas must be applied for from abroad!▼
You must apply for your NON-O visa online via the Thaievisa website before traveling to Thailand.
Important: You cannot apply for a NON-O visa from within Thailand.
