Can I open a joint Thai bank account with my wife to apply for a visa?
For certain Thai visa applications that require financial evidence from a Thai bank (such as Retirement Visas or Marriage Visas), there are strict rules regarding the name on the account used for submission:

- The bank account used for a visa application must be solely under the name of the foreign applicant.
- A joint account with a spouse (wife/husband) or any other person cannot be used.
- If joint accounts are allowed as an exception, the required amount may need to be twice the standard requirement.
⬩➤ 2. Source of Funds (Deposited Money)▼
- Thai authorities do not require that the deposited funds come solely from the applicant’s personal income.
- You may transfer the full required amount into the account in a single transaction — for example, 400,000 THB for a marriage visa or 800,000 THB for a retirement visa — to meet the financial evidence requirement.
- The most important factor is that the account balance meets the specified minimum on the date of application, and that the funds have been maintained for the required period set by the Immigration Office (e.g., 2 or 3 months before submitting the application).
- For an extension of stay, the funds must be deposited for the period required by the Immigration Office (e.g. at least 2 months before submitting the application).
- In some cases, applicants may be required to keep the funds in the account for an additional 3–4 months, and withdrawals may not be allowed after approval, even though this is not stated in official regulations and may not be announced in advance.
