Why You Should Get a Tourist Visa Even If You’re Eligible for Visa-Free Entry
Foreigners entering Thailand under the visa exemption scheme who have already extended their stay to the full limit must leave the country for several days before re-entering if they wish to stay longer. This practice is called a Visa Run.
Although the authorities do not specify a limit for air entries, doing this too often — more than twice a year, or staying in Thailand for over 180 days per year — may raise suspicion that the person is residing in Thailand long-term without the proper visa type, which could lead to entry denial.
The solution is to apply for a Tourist Visa (TR visa) before entering Thailand. It is completely legal and worry-free, with no limit on the number of times you can apply for the visa.
