การเปลี่ยนวีซ่า :

• คือ การเปลี่ยนสถานะหรือประเภทของวีซ่า จากประเภทหนึ่งไปเป็นอีกประเภทหนึ่ง เช่น การเปลี่ยนจากฟรีวีซ่าหรือวีซ่าท่องเที่ยว ให้กลายเป็นวีซ่าระยะยาว เช่น วีซ่า Non-Immigrant O (Non-O)

การขออยู่ต่อ :

• คือ การขยายระยะเวลาพำนักในไทยให้อยู่ได้นานขึ้นตามประเภทวีซ่าเดิมที่มีอยู่แล้ว โดยผู้ยื่นจะต้องถือวีซ่านั้น ๆ อยู่ก่อนแล้ว (ซึ่งอาจได้มาจากการขอเปลี่ยนวีซ่าภายในประเทศ หรือได้มาจากการยื่นขอจากสถานทูตไทยในต่างประเทศ) แล้วนำมายื่นขอยืดระยะเวลาออกไป

ฟรีวีซ่า 30 วัน / วีซ่าท่องเที่ยว (TR) 60 วัน:

• ขออยู่ต่อได้อีก 30 วัน
• ข้อจำกัด: ยื่นขออยู่ต่อได้เพียง 1 ครั้งเท่านั้น เมื่อครบกำหนดแล้วต้องเดินทางออกจากประเทศไทย

วีซ่า DTV (180 วัน):

• ขออยู่ต่อได้อีก 180 วัน
• ข้อจำกัด: ยื่นขออยู่ต่อได้เพียง 1 ครั้งเท่านั้น เมื่อครบกำหนดแล้วต้องเดินทางออกจากประเทศไทย

วีซ่า Non-O (90 วัน):

• ขออยู่ต่อได้อีก 1 ปี
• ข้อดี: สามารถยื่นขออยู่ต่อได้เรื่อย ๆ ปีละ 1 ครั้ง ทำได้ทุกปี

การเปลี่ยนวีซ่าในไทยมีข้อจำกัดที่เคร่งครัดมาก ไม่ใช่ว่าจะเปลี่ยนจากประเภทใดไปเป็นประเภทใดก็ได้ โดยมีเงื่อนไขดังนี้:

✅ ฟรีวีซ่า / วีซ่าท่องเที่ยว (TR)➜ เปลี่ยนเป็น วีซ่า Non-O: ทำได้ (เปลี่ยนเป็น Non-O ประเภทคู่สมรส, ครอบครัว หรือเกษียณอายุเท่านั้น)

❌ ฟรีวีซ่า ➜ วีซ่าท่องเที่ยว (TR): ทำไม่ได้

❌ วีซ่าท่องเที่ยว (TR) ➜ วีซ่า DTV: ทำไม่ได้

❌ วีซ่า DTV ➜ วีซ่า Non-O: ทำไม่ได้

❌ วีซ่า Non-O ➜ เปลี่ยนเป็น Non-O ชนิดอื่น: ทำไม่ได้ (เช่น จาก Non-O เกษียณ จะเปลี่ยนเป็น Non-O คู่สมรสภายในประเทศไม่ได้)

❌ กรณีขอวีซ่า Non-O มาจากต่างประเทศแล้ว: เปลี่ยนวีซ่าไม่ได้ (ถือเป็นประเภท Non-O อยู่แล้ว ไม่สามารถยื่นเปลี่ยนประเภทวีซ่าในไทยได้อีก)

การเปลี่ยนวีซ่าในไทยจำเป็นต้องใช้ บัญชีธนาคารไทย ในการแสดงหลักฐานทางการเงิน

• ปัญหาสำคัญที่ทำให้ทำไม่ได้: ธนาคารในไทยส่วนใหญ่มีเงื่อนไขว่า ผู้ที่จะเปิดบัญชีธนาคารไทยได้จะต้องมีวีซ่า Non-O อยู่แล้วเท่านั้น

• วงจรที่ทำให้ดำเนินการไม่ได้: เข้าไทยด้วยฟรีวีซ่า/วีซ่าท่องเที่ยว ➜ ไม่มีวีซ่า Non-O ➜ ธนาคารไม่ให้เปิดบัญชี ➜ ไม่มีบัญชีธนาคารไทย ➜ ตม. ไม่ให้เปลี่ยนวีซ่า ➜ สุดท้ายต้องบินกลับประเทศ

หากมีเอกสารรับรองรายได้ครบถ้วน สามารถยื่นเปลี่ยนวีซ่าในไทยได้

ข้อควรระวัง: เจ้าหน้าที่ ตม. ในบางพื้นที่ ก็ยังคงบังคับให้ต้องไปเปิดบัญชีธนาคารไทยเพื่อให้นำเงินรายได้ก้อนนั้นเข้ามาผ่านบัญชีไทยตามที่แจ้งไว้อยู่ดี

• แม้ชาวต่างชาติบางคนจะเคยมาไทยนานแล้วและบังเอิญมีบัญชีธนาคารไทยอยู่แล้วก็ตาม แต่การเปลี่ยนวีซ่าในไทยก็ยังมีความเสี่ยงสูงมาก

• สาเหตุ: ปัจจุบันประเทศไทยเข้มงวดเรื่องการคัดกรองคนเข้าประเทศอย่างมาก เพื่อป้องกันปัญหาสแกมเมอร์ กลุ่มทุนสีเทา และต่างชาติที่เข้ามาก่อความเดือดร้อน

• จุดยืนของ ตม.: เจ้าหน้าที่ ตม. คือตำรวจ ไม่ใช่ผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านการตรวจสอบวีซ่าโดยตรง หน้าที่การคัดกรองและออกวีซ่าเป็นของ “สถานทูตไทยในต่างประเทศ” ดังนั้น ในช่วงเวลาที่ ตม. เข้มงวด แม้จะมีบัญชีธนาคารไทยและมีเงินครบตามเกณฑ์ ตม. ก็อาจไม่อนุมัติให้เปลี่ยนวีซ่าในประเทศ และจะปฏิเสธให้เดินทางกลับไปขอวีซ่าจากต่างประเทศอยู่ดี

Changing Visa Type:

• This means changing your current visa status or type to a completely different type. For example, converting a visa-exempt entry or a Tourist Visa into a long-term visa, such as a Non-Immigrant O (Non-O) Visa.

Extention of Stay:

• This means extending your permitted length of stay using the same visa type you already hold. You must already hold that specific visa (obtained either by changing it inside Thailand or applying through a Thai embassy abroad) and then submit a request to prolong your stay.

If you want to prolong your stay using your current visa type, you can contact an Immigration office under these terms:

Visa Exemption 30 days / Tourist Visa (TR) 60 days:

• Can extend for 30 additional days.
• Limitation: Can only be done once. Once it expires, you must leave Thailand.

DTV Visa (180 days):

• Can extend for 180 additional days.
• Limitation: Can only be done once per entry. Once it expires, you must leave Thailand.

Non-O Visa (90 days):

• Can extend for 1 full year.
• Advantage: Can be extended once every year, repeatedly year after year.

Changing your visa inside Thailand is strictly regulated. You cannot convert just any visa type into another. Here are the rules:

✅ Visa Exemption / Tourist Visa (TR) ➜ Non-O Visa: Allowed (Only to Non-O based on marriage, family, or retirement).

❌ Visa Exemption ➜ Tourist Visa (TR): Not allowed.

❌ Tourist Visa (TR) ➜ DTV Visa: Not allowed.

❌ DTV Visa ➜ Non-O Visa: Not allowed.

❌ Non-O Visa ➜ Another Type of Non-O Visa: Not allowed (For example, converting a Non-O Retirement to a Non-O Marriage inside Thailand is not permitted).

❌ If you already obtained a Non-O Visa from abroad: Not allowed (You already hold a Non-O category, so you cannot apply to change visa types inside Thailand).

• Changing a visa inside Thailand requires a Thai bank account to show proof of funds.

• The main obstacle: Most Thai banks require foreigners to already hold a Non-O Visa before opening a bank account.

• The endless loop: Arrive on Visa Exemption / Tourist Visa ➜ No Non-O Visa ➜ Bank refuses to open an account ➜ No Thai bank account ➜ Immigration refuses the visa conversion ➜ Must fly back home.

• If you have complete official income certification documents, you can apply to convert your visa inside Thailand.

• Important warning: Some local Immigration offices still require you to open a Thai bank account and transfer your certified monthly income into that Thai account as proof anyway.

• Even if some foreigners visited Thailand a long time ago and happen to already have an old Thai bank account, converting a visa inside Thailand is still very risky.

• The reason: Thailand strictly screens incoming foreigners to prevent issues like online scammers, grey-market capital, and disruptive foreign individuals.

• Immigration’s stance: Immigration officers are police officers, not specialized visa screening agents. Screening and issuing visas is the official job of “Thai Embassies abroad”. Therefore, during strict policy periods, even if you have a Thai bank account and full funds, Immigration officers may still refuse to convert your visa inside Thailand and tell you to leave the country to apply at an embassy abroad.
