⬩➤ 1. Non-Immigrant O (Retirement) *

⬩➤ 2. Non-Immigrant O-A (1 ปี)

⬩➤ 3. Non-Immigrant O-X (5

Thai Retirement Visa – Types & Health Insurance Requirements

For foreigners aged 50 and over who wish to stay long-term in Thailand, there are three main types of retirement visas available. The most popular option in recent years is the Non-Immigrant O (Retirement) visa — that does not require health insurance. It’s recommended to apply for this visa from abroad before entering Thailand, as it makes it much easier to open a Thai bank account, which is necessary for visa extensions later on. Entering Thailand under a visa exemption, on the other hand, does not allow opening a Thai bank account, making future visa extensions more complicated.

⬩➤ 1. Non-Immigrant O (Retirement) *Recommended

Advantages

  • No health insurance required
  • Allows an initial 90-day stay upon entry, extendable for 1 year at a time inside Thailand (can be renewed continuously without leaving the country)

Financial requirements

  • Savings: At least 800,000 THB
    • 🌍Applying from abroad: A foreign bank account is accepted.
    • 🇹🇭Changing or extending inside Thailand: A Thai bank account is required.
  • OR
    Monthly income/pension: At least 65,000 THB/month
    • 🌍Applying from abroad: Income proof is accepted as is — no translation or legalization needed.
    • 🇹🇭Changing or extending inside Thailand: Must be verified as genuine, certified by the applicant’s embassy, translated, and legalized.

⬩➤ 2. Non-Immigrant O-A (1-Year Retirement Visa)

  • Advantages:
    • Allows a full 1-year stay upon entry
    • Renewable annually in Thailand without leaving the country.
  • Limitations:
    • Requires health insurance coverage of at least USD 100,000.
    • Must be applied for before entering Thailand only.
  • Financial requirements: A bank deposit of 800,000 THB or a monthly income of 65,000 THB (same as Type 1).

⬩➤ 3. Non-Immigrant O-X (5-Year Retirement Visa)

  • Advantages:
    • Allows a 5-year stay upon entry
    • Renewable once for another 5 years (total of 10 years).
  • Limitations:
    • Requires health insurance coverage of at least USD 100,000
    • Available only to nationals of certain countries.
    • Must be applied for before entering Thailand only.
  • Financial requirements: A bank deposit of 3,000,000 THB.

⬩➤ Recommended Option & Steps

The best choice is Option 1: Non-Immigrant O (Retirement).
Apply for this visa from your home country before traveling to Thailand — this way, you can use your foreign bank account to show proof of funds.

After arriving in Thailand:

  • Open a Thai bank account immediately and transfer 800,000 THB into it.
  • The funds must remain in the Thai account for at least 2 months before applying for your visa extension.
  • After the extension is granted, you must keep at least 400,000 THB in the account for 3 months continuously.

This process ensures a smooth and compliant path to long-term retirement in Thailand.
